Training of Adult Facilitators

Lead The Field Training, is a pioneer in training ADULT Facilitators. Lead The Field has been doing this since 1964, long before the official ADULT with all its fluctuating and changing requirements came to pass.

 

We are still operating within the framework of training for which we have become a household name in South Africa and abroad: Unlocking the full Potential of Learners, guiding them on a life-changing road of empowerment, evolvement and achievement, and equipping them with unique teaching/learning skills.

 

The philosophical backbone of our training is contained in an awareness course which every Facilitator will have to attend: Concepts for Capacity Building and Successful Achievement. This programme is built on the wisdom of the ages in alignment with the newest cutting – edge scientific findings.

 

As far as the teaching and learning component is concerned we apply the highly esteemed approach of Suggestopedic Accelerated Learning and Teaching (SALT). Like the Concepts, this SALT – approach develops the self-confidence and self-esteem of Facilitators, features without which training and teaching cannot proceed, and bringing fun and enjoyment back into the classroom.

 

We are aware of SAQA’s Unit Standards and the substance of these is therefore built into our workbooks. Each candidate will be provided with materials containing the substance of these US. They will not be taught explicitly during the short training course because it is quite boring and causes a lot of fogging as far as the real issues are concerned.

 

The gist of the US are built into our workbooks so that formative and summative assessments will pose no problem to prospective candidates.

 

The ADULT-pathway from Level 1 to Level 4 is paved with so-called “fundamentals” and “electives” among the prescribed US. The successful completion of the Fundamentals, i.e. Language (communication) and Numeracy (mathematics) at Level 4 enables a candidate to enrol for a Learnership. Should the Fundamentals be enriched by some other electives, the candidate acquires a full NQF1 enabling the person to embark on the scholastic road.

Lead The Field focus on the Fundamentals and do not encroach onto the fields of electives. As mentioned before, Lead The Field concentrates on the training of Facilitators or other multipliers in the community. Our organizational code is: Inspiration to fulfil potential. A Facilitator who has become aware of all their own possibilities will model this in the classroom and rub off this enthusiasm for knowledge to all learners.

As far as our knowledge goes and as far as we can establish from the internet there is at this moment no official registration or accreditation procedures for ADULT Facilitators. The situation is complex and unclear. This issue of Adult Education has been in planning and consideration for a very long time, for at least 3 years, with still no solution in sight by the responsible Ministry.

 

Facilitators will have to be equipped with the basic skills, knowledge and wisdom to step into this field of relative uncertainty. They will thereafter have to study a lot on their own (or have some on-the-job-training) regarding the specific requirements of a specific Workplace Skills Plan.

 

Lead The Field is per definition and per excellence capable to take Facilitators through this first essential phase of personal empowerment: equipping them with basic learning and teaching skills basic self-confidence and self-worth, imparting necessary information to be converted into knowledge and wisdom for life, and to have the will, the self motivation, the desire and the self confidence to step into any field of training.

The Training:

The backbone of the Programme is an awareness course which has been successfully presented to many thousands of people, in South Africa and abroad: Concepts for Capacity Building and Successful Achievement.

Candidates will be awakened to an awareness of unlimited potential. They will be exposed to concepts and ideas which give tangible substance to this potential. Only when Trainers are aware of their own potential they will be able

to empower their students. Experience has taught us that a person with a low self-esteem cannot be taught successfully, let alone teach other people something.  The components of self-worth will therefore be explicitly

demonstrated and taught during the training: self-confidence, self-reliance, self-motivation and other concepts within the same field of meaning.

 

The Programme will be aimed at the re-empowering of Trainers who must demonstrate, model and teach people in a diversity of fields. Many of these fields rely for e.g. on clear articulation and pronunciation. We have

programmes/kits available to empower these people. Most of the candidates will be in need of teaching and learning skills. They will be introduced to the principles of Suggestopedic Accelerated Learning (SALT) as being one of the

most effective ways to communicate information and establishing knowledge.

 

Candidates will be exposed to the most recent scientific findings regarding brain-based learning and teaching. They will be introduced to most significant life-skills like speed-reading and super-memory.

 

Training Materials:

• Each Candidate will be provided with a workbook regarding Concepts for Capacity Building and Successful Achievement.
• Every workbook is equipped with 6 CD’s supporting and extending the content.
• Each Candidate will be supplied with a booklet on Suggestopedic Accelerated Learning.

 

Trainers:

The Candidates will be exposed to some of the most experienced Trainers and Master Teachers in South Africa, including Frikkie van Kraayenburg and Prof Flip Strydom.
