Accelerated Learning Techniques Supplemented by Pathways to Successful Achievement

1.  To be able to understand when spoken to in the Target Language (English).

To be able to speak and communicate verbally in the Target Language (English).

To  read, write and do numerical calculations in the Target Language (English) at the level of NQF1 (ABET Level 4 or school grade 9) in order to eventually  be enrolled in a Learnership in order to becertified and qualified as a skilled worker or to continue to NQF Level 4 andhigher levels in elective subjects.

2.  The IEB (Independent Examination Board) works within the NQF, is accredited as an assessment agency with UMALUSI by the Department of Education as overall quality assurer, and is exclusively responsible for Assessment and eventual Certification and Accreditation of Learners in the ABET category of our Labour force.  An Academic Module which must be complied with is presented, based on the Units Standards developed by the National Qualification Forum, NQF, and registered and updated by SAQA, the South African Qualifications Authority.

3.  This process had taken 15 years, 1994-2009 from conception to the final developed (or continuously developing) product.

4.  Lead the Field Africa introduced to South Africa’s Education Industry the revolutionary Suggestopedic Accelerated Learning Techniques (SALT) methodology, supported and enriched with the Creative Accelerated Learning Methods (CALM) in 1986 (23 years before  2009), NOW the Accelerated Learning Techniques are Supplemented by Pathways to Successful Achievement and English Phonics Training Programme:

4.1.  SALT was originally developed by Georgi Lozanov a psychiatrist at the University of Sophia in Bulgaria.   This method is directed to unlocking the immense capacity of the Human Brain. This methodology having been taught to teachers proved that a curriculum normally destined for two or more academic years could be successfully mastered in one year i.e. producing marticulants at age 14-15 with cumulative achievements.  Currently in South Africa the University of Stellenbosch offers a one year Diploma Course in the SALT Methodology.

4.2.  The Pathways to Successful Achievement Programme is directed to stimulating the individual’s Self-esteem.   Not even the best teacher can teach a person with a low self-esteem ANYTHING.

The Pathways Programme involves both the cognitive and the affective aspects of the Human Psyche.  Both the logical-reasoning and the much more subtle faculties of the subconscious and the intuitive power of the Human Mind are addressed.

The 3 day Pathways Programme introduces the candidate to:

  • Rapid Reading, Mind Maps, Memory

  • Time Management, Problem Solving

  • Study Methods, leading to success in examinations

  • Goal Setting

  • Healthy Lifestyle, and predominantly:

Self-confidence, Self-worth and the intrinsic WILL to unlock their own potential to live a better life.
4. 3    Phonics

The English language comprises of only 78 phonemics (sounds) which once mastered by the candidate can pronounce and decode any word in the English language and pronounce the word in understandable format.

5.  The Lead the Field ABET programme complies fully with all aspects as set forth by the IEB as a foundation on to which a superstructure  i.e. could be built with the Pathways Programme and SALT methodology and phonics (English) training.

The combined Pathways-ABET Suggestopedic (facilitator training) programme is taught over 8 days inclusive of a week-end in-between to allow time for review and internalization.

Where:  live-in accommodation at the Imbali Training Centre at Apex, Benoni, Gauteng is provided:

  • begin to teach 2 hour lessons

Prospective ABET learners should be assessed with the LAB (indicating prior knowledge of Literacy and Numeracy and the Ability to learn) in order to be accepted as a candidate learner.
This information, obtained, from the LAB  Assessment, is helpful to slot ABET  candidates into groups with similar abilities i.e. fast, medium and slow learners and with the same level of Prior Learning of English literacy and numeracy as a departure point in the ABET  training process.
Skills and career development for adults start with the learner becoming literate and numerate up to ABET Level 4 to be ready for further education & training (FET).

Literacy and numeracy courses are fundamental and mandatory for learners to handle the core subjects in Further Education and Training (FET).

Lead The Field’s approach to ABET is NOT merely for the Learner to read, write and work with numbers, but to be equipped to react to written materials and do calculations in order to develop one's full potential and become a more productive person.

No person can be trained in a skill or communicate in a language not understood and comprehended.

LTF uses Suggestopedic Accelerated Learning Techniques (SALT) for all it’s ABET programmes, thus achieving proven results in a much shorter time.

Our Government and Trade Unions are doing much to persuade employers to speed up this process which will ultimately lead to greater prosperity and a better quality of life for all.

The ABET learning pathway Levels 1-4 leads to a General Education Certificate (G.E.T.C.) – NQF Level 1.

A General Education and Training Certificate serves a number of purposes and links strongly with the "Bill of Rights".

The following table may be useful to see where ABET levels fit into the overall framework.

Lead the Field’s Suggested Career Development Programme

The following diagram is a suggested planning tool for a Career Development Programme.
Using the Learning Ability Battery to determine current skills and knowledge levels, candidates can be channeled into the appropriate ABET training courses, followed by Further Education and Training as required.
